About mcjames

Spending most free time getting my newest venture up and running - The Human Bean coffee shop in Hillsboro. Been able to squeeze in some riding - some PIR in ‘07 (finally learning how to sprint), most of the CX season, and now putting in the neglected and much needed miles.

As for racing...it’s been a while since I’ve taken it seriously. Had some decent results in triathlons in HS and college, then found beer and girls and racing sort of derailed for longer than I’d like to admit. Raced mt bikes while living in Utah (90-97-sucked at the racing, but the riding was awesome!) and then found cross after returning to PDX. This is morphing into what I hope are some good road results (shorter road races and crits).

Category - Road / Track / Cross / Mtn. Bike: Cat 4 road / C+ cross / Cat 5 track

Occupation: VP of small mfg co and just opened The Human Bean coffee shop

Goal(s) for 2008: Re-learn bike racing strategy and build a base...lookout in '09!

How long have you been riding? Racing: off and on last 15 yrs...mostly off. Riding: since I built a take-off and landing ramp to jump my Panda BMX bike (w/ yellow plastic 3-spoke wheels!) and a huge (at least it looked huge) pit in between, plus some neighbor kids lined up laying on their backs as added incentive to clear the jump.

How many bikes do you own? 4 - goal is 7

What piece of your cycling arsenal can you not leave home without? Being all politically correct here - my helmet.

What piece of equipment are you currently lusting after? Any new, cool wheels

Who is your favorite rider of all time? Evel Knievel

Which is your Favorite tour? Paris-Roubaix

What is your favorite cycling movie? What’s the one where the dad talks about “inni” foods...that one.

If you were getting ready for the TDF prologue, what motivational music would we find on your i-pod? Wolfmother, Zeppelin is good, and the always classic Metallica

Who are some of your non-cycling sports heroes? Evel Knievel Wilma Rudolf Jesse Owens and those kids who run like gazelles with the artificial carbon-fiber prosthetic legs

What is one activity/sport you would never try? speed golf

When your competitive days are gone.(Hairy or shaved) Never shaved, so just looking for an excuse to give it a try.

What is your favorite pre-race meal? “Favorite” is not the same thing as “best for you”.

What is your favorite food on the bike? It’s all icky...

What is your favorite meal off the bike? pizza (not very witty or original, but how can you not put pizza for this question)

Tell us one thing about yourself that the rest of the group does not know. I played violin in 4th grade
