Fit Bit O' The Week

Cycling and the Benefits of Massage, by Laura Green, LMT

Our bodies are miraculous. The number of feats they must accomplish, moment by moment, to keep us alive and well is stunning. For the most part, we live blissfully unaware of the galaxy of wonders spinning out inside us – and that’s probably for the best. There are so many things outside one’s body to deal with; things you can see and have to attend to, like your children and your carbon footprint and what’s for dinner – it makes sense to let meiosis just happen and not think too much about it.

But you are a cyclist. You spend hours bent forward over your handlebars with your neck extended, your hips flexed, pumping your legs tens of thousands of times.  Read more..

Welcome to Portland Velo!

PV Website Migration Underway!

The PV website migration is now underway!  This is the old Portland Velo website.  It may take up to 72 hours for your DNS server to switch over to the new website, so please be patient.   Thanks for your support!

PV Website Migration News!

Starting the week of August 23rd, the web team will begin process of migrating to our new home. As this progresses, members may notice traffic being directed to either the new or old site, or reduced site functionality as we make the necessary changes.  Once the cut over is done, members will receive word via email on what is necessary for you to do in order to log into the new site, so please watch there for your username, password, and the "Doug Rennie Approved" follow up instructions you'll need to complete in order to finalize your account.

During this time, we'll be closing down the ability to join Portland Velo so we can migrate over our userbase as well.  Please be assured that as soon as we can open this back up, we will.

We thank you for your patience, and if you have any questions, please email webmaster@portlandvelo.net

Lakeside Bicycles Invites Portland Velo on Rides

Thanks to our sponsor LAKESIDE BICYCLES, Portland Velo has been invited to join them on their Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday weekly rides which begin at Lakeside Bicycles in Lake Oswego.

Wednesday and Saturday rides vary from 35 to 80+ miles in length depending on who shows up and how much time they have.  Sunday rides need to return to Lakeside Bicycles before noon so we can open the shop.  All the rides leave from behind Lakeside Bicycles.  The pace can be pretty frisky but in no case is anyone left behind or otherwise destroyed or intimidated.  Weekend parking is available on-street and in any of the municipal public parking lots (which are unpatrolled on weekends).  Wednesday parking needs to be a bit more circumspect particularly for rides that run more than 3 hours.  Routes and duration are determined by a somewhat democratic process:  Everyone gets a vote, the loudest voice (usually Doug's) decides.

Shop for Portland Velo gear in our online store!

You can buy sweatshirts, t-shirts, coffee mugs, mousepads - all kinds of stuff to wear or use before or after a ride.  A portion of the proceeds goes to support our club and the items are shipped directly to you!  Check out the selection at Cafe Press

Soon we will have all new items in the CafePress store with our new 2010 kit designs!

NEW!  Shop for race team gear here.
